Motors@Work ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF NEW RELEASE
Pumping System Energy Optimization Demand Forecasting
GREENVILLE, SC – November 1, 2015; Motor@Work LLC today announced the commercial availability of Motors@WorkTM v 2.1; on November 1, 2015. Building on Motors@WorkTM “Smarter Water” patent pending Multi-source Pumping Optimization capabilities, Release 2.1 incorporates water demand forecasting providing Water Utilities the analytics and intelligence to further reduce energy costs associated with their pumping operations.
The majority of water processing and distribution energy consumption is by motors and motor- driven systems related to pumping. Given that over 80% of the electricity used by water systems is from pumping, most of the energy reduction gains can be realized through operating the water pumping systems more efficiently and Cost Effectively. These Efficiencies are gained not only from a design and asset life-cycle management perspective, but by operating the right (most Efficient available) component pumping system(s), at the right time, for the right duration, to meet operational requirements at the least cost. This is particularly important when considering that demand and peak rate charges are typically over 50% of water processing electric bill. It is not uncommon for energy charges between peak and off‐peak times to vary by more than $0.12/kWh, or 500%. Additionally, Demand charges may be computed at a much higher rate if the Utility’s highest-‐demand interval occurs during the peak hours.
Electric Utilities’ Time-of-Use rates, by charging more during the peak period when incremental costs are highest, sends marginal-cost price signals to customers These Signals must be factored in to the Water Utilities Operating control strategy in order to minimize energy expense. Motors@WorkTM Release 2.1 Demand Forecasting Was specifically developed to support optimizing these expenses while meeting the Water Utilities’ Operational requirements.
The Motors@WorkTM Release 2.1 Multi-source Pumping Optimization with Demand Forecasting provides the operator the analytics and intelligence to:
- Select multi‐variable 10 Day “Demand Degree Day” Forecast scenarios,
- Determine Forecast day demand incurring peak-period rates,
- Determine Forecast day demand escalating established peak rate of energy use,
- Identify Potential forecast days to shift demand to off-peak period available capacity,
- Determine Economics of shifting demand to forecast days with off-‐peak period available capacity,
- Identify Potential forecast days to shift demand in order to avoid escalating peak rate energy use charges, and
- Determine Economics of shifting demand to forecast days without escalating established peak energy use.
“We are very excited to continue to bring Motors@WorkTM “Smarter Water” Innovation to the water sector market to help utilities to not only operate more efficiently but more cost effectively. A Water Utility On time-of-use rates should absolutely consider shifting as much demand to off-peak periods as possible, along with other demand control measures which can reduce their energy expense.
The Savings potential is so significant investments in added equipment and infrastructure may be justified by the reductions in energy and demand charges. The Motors@Work TM Analytics and intelligence will enable the Water Utility to systematically achieve the best outcome, minimum costs and maximum system efficiency, through the optimization of pumping system forecasted demand, capacity, and electric utility rate structures and tariffs.” Noted Rod Ellsworth, Founder & CEO Motors@Work LLC.
